The best U23 full-backs from Eredivisie teams

The 2019/20 Eredivisie season is long behind us since it got canceled earlier this year. Nobody was given the title with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar both finishing on 56 points after 25 games. Rightfully, the majority of the attention throughout the season was on these two teams and the youth within their squads.

The Netherlands has some of the most famous footballing academies in the world and has produced some great talents over the years. Recently the Eredivisie has been a great marketplace for teams within the top five leagues. Barcelona recently acquired Frenkie de Jong whilst Juventus secured the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.

The Eredivisie holds some of the best young defenders in world football, but this isn’t always taken advantage of. Full-backs are now, more than ever, vital to a team’s playing style. The importance of this position and the great youth that the Dutch league produces allows for an exciting analysis.

For this reason, this data analysis will use statistics to identify the best full-backs who played in the Eredivisie last season (2019/20). We will assess them on five key metrics we think will give you a good indication of their ability. We will then use these metrics to suggest 10 full-backs that would be worth keeping an eye on.
